On Reflection

On Reflection by Gill Edwards
34 x 34 cm
SOLD

In June 2017 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, here in Nottingham. In July 2019 I decided to take early retirement from my career in Textile Design to follow a long-held dream of being a painter.
In November 2021 my Dad died and thoughts of legacy rose to the surface.
During my BC treatment, which went on for many months, my relationship with my daughters changed. I was no longer the one who organised everything and made all the plans. They started to be the ones who did that. It struck me suddenly one day that this was a pivotal moment in the mother-daughter relationship, and I’ve thought about that often since.
At the start of 2022 I felt the need to honour my daughters in the best way I could. Until then I hadn’t painted figures. My love of design, colour & pattern was still at the forefront, but the paintings just emerged from inside me. I’ve gone on to produce a series of my Modern Muses, and I don’t think I’ve finished yet.
‘On Reflection’ is based on a moment in early February 2022 when we went away together, and this was just a moment in time captured.
